Finance Manager

An exciting role in cutting edge clinical research, working with some of the most distinguished domestic and global pharmaceutical companies.


We are looking for a finance / accounts manager to work in a growing finance/business team.  The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting, business or an accounting qualification, ACCA, CIMA, AAT or equivalent qualifications; however, we will consider each candidate based upon their experience.  The role will involve maintaining MEU and affiliate company accounts in accordance with UK financial reporting regulations and company SOP’s.  You will be responsible for overseeing finance related activities, the role will involve liaising with key teams; Project Management, Contracts and Operational to assist with the understanding of financial matters.


Please note this is an office-based role at our offices in South Manchester, UK.

The role: 

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of MEU finances.
  • Lead on budgeting and forecasting working closely with the Finance/Business and Management team.
  • Contract reconciliation to ensure income maximation.
  • Review and population of contract appendices.
  • Responsible for accurate preparation of Month End financial statements.
  • Responsible for accurate preparation of Statutory Year End accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly reporting information for the Management Team.
  • Preparation of Board Papers.
  • Responsibility for Company compliance e.g. VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE/NI, P11d etc
  • Point of contact for external auditors and agencies.
  • Complete external returns e.g.– Office for National statistics, HMRC & Companies House.
  • On-going proactive involvement with project management in review of project status, ensuring contractual terms and milestones are invoiced timely and adjustments are made for changes in scope.
  • Supporting development of other members of our finance team.
  • Maintain Sage 200 – purchase ledger, sales ledger, nominal ledger and cash book.
  • Prepare and review project costs.
  • Prepare and submit proposals to Sponsors.
  • Update financial systems and company SOPs.



  • Ideally a finance related qualification with experience managing company accounts.
  • Ideally, previous experience within a similar role.
  • Adept understanding of business accounting.
  • Highly organised with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated individual with initiative and a desire to learn and progress.
  • Positive and engaging personality with an ability to build relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidently deal with all internal and external staff levels.
